Well in recent news a high school student in Minnesota went postal and singlehandedly perpetrated a shooting that rates in a carnage scale second to Columbine.

Sadly, one becomes numb to most of these preceedings, once learning there was only nine dead I was more relieved at the low number then shocked at it.

But upon closer inspection the shooter is identified as "into Goth culture, wore "a big old black trench coat," drew pictures of skeletons, listened to heavy metal music and "talked about death all the time." (from MSNBC )

To which I exclaimed, FUCK

he also apparently was a skilled artist and a loner

Note to all you tortured geeks, black clothes, trench coat wearing, heavy metal fans that are contemplating violence that will make your life better:

Bear in mind I am speaking as part of the tortured black wearing, trenchcoat clad, geek community. As you read this, remember: I am/was one of you. I may have left high school, but I still know where you're coming from.

Me and many others like me have been in your shoes, we've been kicked and mocked and given funny looks and all the other horrid things you can name. We've been there and we never killed or shot anyone.


Everytime one of you little snots go out and shoot someone who pissed you off, I cringe. Not because of the act, no (not that it isn't awful in itself. I cringe because while you are off on your little shooting spree, which of course always ends in suicide, everyone else has to put up with the mess thats left behind.

Stop rocking the damn boat and wrecking life for the rest of us who aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Some idiots in Colorado some years years back started this trend and since then, things just get worse and worse. I've had to deal with all the generalizing, all the stereotyping, all the suspicion, being treated like a ticking time bomb. Everything from the music I listen to, to the games I play being analyzed making sure it won't turn me suddenly violent. A whole social group of kids gets black listed and kept under tight watch. Because surely we're all a menace, we're all just waiting and plotting for when we shall make our move and blow up the school in the name of our Lord Master Satan/Nosferatu/Marylin Manson etc.

And you know what?


Everytime one of you snots get violent you're just proving them right about the us. You're just making everyone believe they were right to treat us like that in the first, it justifies what they do.

Yes you're tortured, yes you're angsty, thats probably why you're one of the group in the first place. However, bear in mind junior high and high school does not last forever. Keep your head up and this too shall pass, what does not kill you makes you stronger.

So suck it up and deal, we did.
