The Life of a Foolish Mortal

Hoo boy, I LOVE LOVE LOVE when the conservative right wing goes so far right it comes around the other side and makes me look patriotic by comparison. No actually I don't it disgusts and confuses me at the same.

The reason for this realization about myself is this article courtesy of my school newspaper.

In case the links changes, here's the deal; a group of protestors from a Baptist church in Kansas traveled all the way here to Norman to protest a soldier's funeral. They were not protesting the fact that a life was lost for no real good reason (my opinion anywyay.) No. They were more CELEBRATING the fact the fact a soldier died.

Celebrating because apparently America is tolerant of homoesexuals (news to me btw), and in this tolerance they have pissed off God. Because to quote them "God hates fags", you can go to their site at godhatesfags.com and read all their dreck opinions (I'm not linking it here cause I don't want that kinda of filth on my machine or lj.)

So the protest consisted of them the group of them tromping on the american flag singing about how God's soldiers are marching into hell and how America is doomed and my personal favorite God is laughing at our dead. There are photos with the article for those who can stomach it. One of the protesters explained his actions as “All we are trying to do is spread God’s word.”

Yeah of course. < air quotes> Spread God's word < /air quotes> by interuppting a PRIVATE FUNERAL for someone YOU DIDN'T KNOW and causing those mourning more heartache cause your singing about their loved one marching off to HELL. Stop putting words in God's mouth KAY THNX.

Last I checked "God so loved the world..." and all that. LOVED, not hated. But then again I'm a rather lazy Christian, I haven't burned any crosses in someone's front yard in ages and the last time I met a homosexual person I think I admired his printmaking project rather than spitting on him. So what do I know?

EDIT: I was so mad I forgot to mention the other side of the coin in this situation; the Patriot Guard Riders. These guys are a group of bikers that follow the protesters around and in their own words "...generate a physical and sound barrier between those people and the families who are in mourning...." They revved their engines to drown out the 'church' group's songs and chants. I've never had any beef with bikers most I've met are awesome and more down to earth than most 'average' people. This just serves as another example of how cool some of them can be.

So I'm sorry I forgot to mention you guys, Patriot Gaurd Riders if you can read this: I salute you.

Do NOT GIVE THIS TO YOUR LITTLE CHILDREN. DO NOT.

If the fourth book did not make it clear enough, if the fifth book did not make it clear enough, let me spell this out. THIS IS NOT A KIDS BOOK. If your kid is not in the older years of junior high (we're talking 12-13 and up) DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS READ IT.

I heard my mom saying how there were some little kids at the park yesterday reading the new Hary Potter book, I felt very sad for them. Very sad and ill. These books really stopped being kids books by the end of book four, they've only gotten worse. PARENTS PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOUR KIDS READ.

Well in recent news a high school student in Minnesota went postal and singlehandedly perpetrated a shooting that rates in a carnage scale second to Columbine.

Sadly, one becomes numb to most of these preceedings, once learning there was only nine dead I was more relieved at the low number then shocked at it.

But upon closer inspection the shooter is identified as "into Goth culture, wore "a big old black trench coat," drew pictures of skeletons, listened to heavy metal music and "talked about death all the time." (from MSNBC )

To which I exclaimed, FUCK

he also apparently was a skilled artist and a loner

double FUCK

Note to all you tortured geeks, black clothes, trench coat wearing, heavy metal fans that are contemplating violence that will make your life better: ( read carefully, theres a pop quiz at the end )

Everytime one of you snots get violent you're just proving them right about the us. You're just making everyone believe they were right to treat us like that in the first, it justifies what they do.

Yes you're tortured, yes you're angsty, thats probably why you're one of the group in the first place. However, bear in mind junior high and high school does not last forever. Keep your head up and this too shall pass, what does not kill you makes you stronger.

So suck it up and deal, we did.
