Welp I finally finished that bigger sillier piece I mentioned. I just don't know what to title the thing now.

Click on to see the bigger, cleaner dev-art version

As explained in earlier entries I have sort of become a Team Fortress 2 fan. I don't normally play online shooters, hell I only rarely play shooters. Though I am a sucker for aesthetics, which TF2 has in spades, the rather slapstick characters and writing is just icing. I'm by no means an amazing player, I suck at aiming. So I tend to stick to playing Engineer most, and I tend to do alright with it.

Which is where this came from. Sophie my steam punk scientist/adventurer/engineer and her robotic manservant Bertie, slumming it with Blu with a Red spy "visting". There really isn't a good reason for this picture to exist other than I drew the initial sketch of Sophie at 3 in the morning and decided to try to color it in Painter. The picture sort of blew up from there. Now I don't know what to do with it or what to call it.

Will post a better looking version on Dev Art once I figure out the title.

Late late late art post.

I've been up to my neck on convention preparation, with two unfamiliar conventions back to back I'm trying my best to scrabble together anything and everything that might sell. I've also been mentally twitchy for various reasons from various sources and trying to not run around in circles gibbering.

Anyways, today was a nice break, I got to hang out with my old roommate and do stupid stuff. We ended up lurking around the history section of the local used book store for ages and then lurking around a burger joint for even longer. Good times. She also got me thinking about The Project again, so hopefully at some point in the future I can get back to that. Before con prep, the project and me were in a stand off, I think I can get past that and back on progress. Even if its jumping to another section of it again.

Alright, on with the art.

Another Alice piece. Though it is a tiny one I made for purpose of selling at conventions.

And before anyone asks, no, this isn't me venting some personal issues. At least I'm fairly sure it isn't. Sometimes a pigbaby is just a pigbaby.

Click on for even geekier pieces behind the cut )

Anyway's that is all for right now. Not sure when the next art post will happen since I've got conventions swiftly approaching.

Greetings True Believers!

Not much been going on here, no art at the moment since I spent much of last week playing Mass Effect and trying to get out my art block and my funk. I think for the moment I'm out of the worst of it.

I actually have a couple of watercolor pieces in progress and they look like they'll be done soon. After that I'm going to get back to the stuff I should be working on (commissions, comic etc). So hopefully there will be an art post this week and con prep can progress.

Though I'm out of the funk and in the midst of some strange fit of wanderlust. Actually not sure if wanderlust is the right word, I think maybe stagnation might be the better word. I want to just pack up and move on to somewhere else, not sure to where but somewhere else. Sadly I'm not in a financial state where thats practical, and it feels like I'll be stuck in this state for quite a while unless some sort of miracle occurs. I normally try to tone down the personal angst in the journal so this is the probably last I'll speak of this particular conundrum.

So in some odd attempt to distract you from my lack of activity and my new found emo-ness - have some link spam.

I think everyone at one point or another needs this sort of muse WARNING - THAT LINK IS TO OGLAF - THIS STRIP IS FAIRLY CLEAN BUT THE MAJORITY OF THE WEB COMIC IS VERY NOT SAFE FOR WORK. DO NOT GO BLINDLY CLICKING

And now a safe for work link A collection of Medieval Bestiary entires. - Very interesting and hilarious. Very educational I had no idea that the panther's one natural enemy was dragons

More geekery - if you are a costume nerd like I am you need to see OMG that dress - I have found some awesome historical costumes on there but theres some gorgeous stuff from all sorts of time periods on there.

Still twitchy, can't do too much right now, so heres a survey about girls reading comics I was answering for [livejournal.com profile] hopelarson's journal but got it done after she didn't want any more responses. So I figured since I spent time on it I could at least post it here. It is really interesting seeing everyone else's responses in her blog.

Click on for the insane analysis of what comic stuff I was into in high school )

Now off to shower and try to sleep, I've got a long long week ahead of me.

A friend sent me this via AIM since it involves my interests, history, and bad ass folks who fuck with gender roles. I felt is was quite interesting and needs to be shared. Warning the website is Cracked.com so if you are anything like me you will be sucked in reading lists for hours on end.

The 6 Biggest Badasses Who Lived as the Opposite Sex

I honestly find gender roles quite interesting and people who defied them even more so, in the "things that people do to themselves and others because of...well" kind of sense. People are strange, weird fascinating things.

They finally got Hellsing volume 10 out for pre order.

Even if I don't end up graduating on time at least I'll get to finish something on May the 15th.

So I have recently started realizing I am way too fond of pillaging history for the cool stuff that people forgot about. decided I should share some of this with the world, just so I don't end up hogging all the good bits myself.

Part of this post may of may not be fueled by my rage after I recently ran across a discussion where someone said they just didn't see female pirates as believable since back then all women did was cook, clean and make babies.

Julie d'Aubigny - cross dressing swordswoman, noblewoman, opera singer - and was wanted in various parts of France for kidnapping, body snatching and burning down a nunnery - I am not making any of this up she is probably one of the most epic and badass women I've heard of in history.

Stede Bonnet - A fairly well of family man from well to do background who for some reason, marital issues, mid life crisis what have you decided he needed a change in his life. And built himself a ship, hired a crew and proceeded to become a pirate.

While not awesomely good at it I do consider him epically hilarious just in the sheer audacity of it all. He also did meet up with a pirate that history hasn't forgotten which seemed to help him survive long enough to be vaguely remembered.

Cheng I Sao - Chinese woman who started off as a prostitute, married the head of a large pirate fleet and took over control. She controlled a fleet of around 400 ships (some records give more ships listed) and by the (peaceful retirement) end of her career was responsible for the majority of piracy in Chinese territory.

Anne Dieu-le-VeutFrench buccaneer, woman who joined her husband a pirate in the business when he died she challenged his killer to a duel and they ended up joining forces and sharing command of his ship. She didn't hide the fact she was a woman and the she got the nick name Dieu-le-Veut "God Wants" cause it seemed she got anything she wanted quite easily as if God himself wanted her to get it.

This has been another history nerd ramble. I can not guarantee this will not happen again.

So I'm currently milking my university's Inter Library Loan system for all it is worth and hitting the historical reference books like a crazy person. Considering some of these books cost a pretty penny I'm going to be missing these when I graduate.

Well folks, the new Doctor Who has been cast. It's apparently this guy. No, its not a woman or a black man, sorry. I dunno why everyone seems to think the BBC would/should take such a risk as to go against decades of tradition and cast something outside the Doctor's norm (white and male). As a Timelord it makes no sense for him to cling to one race repeatedly, this I agree with. But as a company not wanting to rock the boat too much it makes sense. If Doctor Who isn't broken why fix it?

The new guy doesn't look like much, he really isn't terribly photogenic in the photo-still sense. It looks like hes got one good side and rest of his face is odd angles. I mean no insult to the guy, there is enough of that going on right now. I merely over analyze faces and I like faces more if there's some interest there, gives them character, makes them stand out. So he looks good but in a very unusual sense that works very well for this role.

But you really need to see the guy actually moving and talking to get a good idea of how hes going to be in the show. He actually has lots of little quirks and such that would probably translate to his performances. True he doesn't have his character built yet or anything but I'm optimistic.
